About me

I’m a pleinair painter, sketcher, life drawer, portrait artist, fantasy and surrealist artist (at least in my fantastically surrealist brain until I actually produce something imaginative. I feel it’s not long away though…)

I have been doing art in some shape or form all my life or at least not long after I was born in Kilrush, County Clare in 1972. Captain America, Superman, Batman were my first influences artistically! I’m sure copying and sketching these characters when a child has had an influence on my current (2017-2020) interest in lifedrawing.

Pandemic Theories Part II

As I’m still mucking around with my site and now using the WordPress App to write this, the only thing I can think of is to continue listing all the weird theories I’ve had or heard on this Covid-19 business. EDIT: It took me half an hour this morning to figure out or FIND where to put this page I created last night. I’m not sure if there is an obvious facility for updating my front page on this yet.

2. Greta Did It

One of the first theories I came up with half as a joke out of nervousness and stress was that environmentalists launched a bio weapon in order to either rid the planet of a load of people and their waste along with them or hold governments to ransom and make them clean the place up. I’ve even got a feeling that my partner is part of the conspiracy as she keeps wanting to save the planet.

Not sure how likely that is but I don’t think it’s out of the question unlikely. It would make the best plot of a Bond film ever though.

3. The Chinese Did It On Purpose

I’ve heard various people actually voice this one or ones – they released it by accident in Wuhan, or “Woehan” as my mother kept calling it, OR they released it on purpose. Maybe a weapons lab employee really did sell an experimented-on dog to a local kebab joint and it got out that way or maybe it escaped another way. Or maybe the Chinese government released it to make money off selling PPE to the west? I’ve a strong suspicion that the Chinese lost out massively overall as the west stopped buying their shite and the west started making its own PPE, including schoolchildren making visors somewhere.

4. Big Pharma Needs Money

I think I cooked this up via someone on Facebook insinuating that it was all about money. They didn’t give details so I filled in a few blanks; we were all getting healthy pre-covid; avoiding sugar, exercising, eating sourdough bread and other healthy crap to a point where Big Pharma was going to run into an issue fairly soon where their income would be threatened. So they released a bio-weapon to make money.

It wouldn’t surprise me if this turns out to be true, not in the slightest. However I think I’m simply overestimating how healthy we were getting which we just aren’t at all in the least.

Theories on the Pandemic

This pandemic is /was a weird experience. I’m sure I wasn’t the only one with crazy conspiracy theories bouncing around in my head. As I haven’t much else to practice writing about on my personal website I might list and describe the weird ideas I had about this event here. If nothing else but for practice getting to know WordPress (which is growing on me) Weird theories and thoughts I’ve had

1. Peak oil

The world is stretched for resources and either the shutdown was planned for now or some new data emerged which meant THEY had to launch their excuse earlier and slow the depletion of scarce resources. This could still be true but is based on the fact I haven’t seen anyone (or a disproportionate amount of people) suffer first hand from Covid, thankfully. This could be different in other countries though.

WordPress is Awkward

I’m finding the mobile interface to update this website sometimes downright unworkable.  I’ve been simply trying to update a title on an image and the typewriter has adopted a life of it’s own.  It underlines when it shouldn’t,  it inserts text that it shouldn’t.  It’s either buggy or designed to frustrate the user.

My Pandemic Output

I think I’m going to write an update to my art life today during this pandemic and how a lot of artists sold a lot of art online while the shops were closed.  Actually I have no update, this is a test to see how my website is functioning.  I intend to give a little bit of time to organising my new work images and uploading them here.  It would help if I had internet in Dublin that was faster than 8MB.

I’m going to post this now and start doing real work!

Updating this website

I’ve had this website for a year as of 16th February, 2019, and I’ve done very little with it since I started it.  My first year’s payment went through yesterday so I thought I should get off my arse and do something about it as it was a pure construction site, nothing more.

Even though I’m interested in programming and computers in general, I’ve had very little interest in finding out how WordPress works up to now but today I decided to google on youtube and see what came up.  It turns out that WordPress is one of the biggest providers of web platforms on the planet if not THE biggest still as of this date, so I picked a well supported brand at least.  I’m not sure if I need a better plan though but I’ll root around in this place until I find the limits of what I need to do or my patience, whichever comes first.

As I’m still dicking around in it, I’m not certain of the constraints on the basic package I have but I have a feeling it’s not letting me publish good quality images of my drawings and paintings.  Google’s blogspot site hosts amazing quality in terms of images but of course there is hardly any customizable functionality.  I suppose I can make a link to my blog here, once I figure out how to do it right.

So there!  My first post on my own website that I intend to tinker with myself.

Meanwhile some old paintings I did in my girlfriend’s parent’s garden in 2016 and 2017.
